Theme

 After going through the Themes in Art pdf, the theme that I'm going to explore and focus on this year is going to be the concept of Art and Fantasy. I chose this theme because I believe that there are many different ways that you can display fantasy through videos because of how broad and diverse of a genre that it is. A couple of examples being an individual vs society, man vs nature, good vs evil, etc. Another reason why I’m choosing the topic of fantasy is because it is one of my favorite genres of films to watch, from Studio Ghibli classics to folktales and traditional motifs. Fantasy is a super limitless topic and you can create basically anything out of it with your imagination.

I’ve had an interest in digital art ever since the start of middle school, and I’ve had a lot of experience from graphic designing to video editing. This was also around the same time when I discovered fandoms on Instagram that created fan edits out of anime and kpop. Watching these videos inspired me to start video editing myself since I also had an interest in these categories, so I started learning how to use after effects and video editing became one of my biggest hobbies.

I have worked on over one hundred videos so far from simple transition videos to complex 3d edits. One of my favorite simple edits is one that I made back in 2018 of the music video “Spring Day” by BTS. At the time, I really only edited for fun and didn’t think much about putting meaning or message behind a video. However, now that I am looking back on it, the video gives me a sense of the past, or that it’s a clip from someone’s memory because of the film overlay that I used. I can also see that I’ve included clips of members being alone and then celebrating together with no emotion, which could portray the pain of loss and moving on from the past.

Another one of my favorites is an edit of a kpop idol that I used to be a big fan of. There isn’t much of a meaning behind it other than it looks cool. However, listening to the lyrics of the song, the person in the video could be someone that you’ve made up in your head, and you’re trying to run away from them because you caught feelings for someone who is not real.

These are just examples of what I would like to do this year, however, I want to focus more on telling a story behind the videos and the fantasy aspect of it since that wasn’t something that I considered back then. Something that I’m going to do a little differently this year is that I will mainly be editing some of my favorite animes that I’ve watched in the past because I think that it will give me more creative room on what to make.
